Why Fans Are Dreading the Release of Umbrella Academy Season 4
The mere fact that The Umbrella Academy even got a final season (unlike many other beloved Netflix shows that were canceled before they had a chance to finish) is already great news for fans, but they are still worried.
Now that The Umbrella Academy has begun production on its fourth and final season, fans are already gearing up for the final run; and in fact, there are plenty of things to worry about.
While the release date has yet to be confirmed, there is one thing we already know about The Umbrella Academy 4.
Unlike the previous seasons, season 4 will be significantly shorter, with only six episodes instead of the usual ten. Meanwhile, the third season left the chaotic Hargreeves family in a bad place: in a completely new reality and without their powers.
According to fans, six episodes may not be enough to tie up all the loose ends and make sure that each storyline gets a decent conclusion. With at least ten characters needing to complete their arcs, fans fear that it's an impossible task for a six-episode season.
Not only do we have the divided gang of Luther, Diego, Maya, Viktor, Five, Klaus and Ben, but there is also Allison (separated from the rest of the family) and Sloane, the only living member of the Sparrow Academy who disappeared after the reality reboot.
Last but not least, there is Reginald Hargreeves himself, whose motives remain unclear in the new season.
However, not everyone is pessimistic about the upcoming fourth season.
"[Showrunner Steve] Blackman always said he had a 4-5 season story to tell. They get to go into season 4 knowing it'll be the last rather than risking cancellation without warning," Redditor raviolioh noted.
After a string of Netflix cancellations preceded the long-awaited renewal of The Umbrella Academy, it's only fair that fans are happy to at least get an actual finale, rather than an abrupt one forced by the platform's red light.
Blackman, meanwhile, has teased a season 4 story that will "keep fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."
Netflix confirmed that production on the final season began in early February, sharing a photo of the reunited cast at a table read.
No premiere date has yet been set for The Umbrella Academy 4.
