Why Élite S6 Is Actually Pretty Great Despite Having No OG Characters (Or Exactly Thanks To It)
From the first seconds of Élite's S6 we find ourselves in the position of seeing what we have already dealt with in previous seasons of this series created by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona: A flashforward of what seems to be a murder.
But make no mistake, your favorite guilty pleasure redeems itself just minutes later when you see the fresh turns it take and new faces you are about to love to hate, all of which is to be honest what we needed to get us hooked again.
Beware: Major S6 spoilers ahead!
Even though Élite has the same steamy vibe and sexy visuals we fell in love with, with clip-like dance scenes, sexual content and explicit drug use, this season tackles some of the most painful topics in the whole series and the moments that make your heart ache take center stage.
An example being the excruciating process of denouncing the rape that Isa endured at end of last season and which occupies a large part of the plot of the new chapters.
Or the recent alcoholism into which Ari (Carla Díaz) seems to be falling into.
We also experience what transphobia is with the arrival in Las Encinas of a trans boy —a new character played by Ander Puig— and homophobia with the coming out of the closet of Cruz, Iván's father (André Lamoglia), and the heartbreaking consequences the latter has.
As if that wasn't enough, we get into a case of domestic abuse, starring Carmen Arrufat and Alex Pastrana: A couple of "influencers" on the media surface, under which bleeding cracks begin to show.
A faithful reflection of the hypocrisy and suffering of our society! As you can see, the new characters take leadership of the show, having no OG character left this season.
We knew already Omar Ayuso's Omar would be leaving the show, and we kinda knew what happened to Samu, although absence of Rebeka is a most noticeable plot hole here.
To sum up, we are facing a new Élite. The cast has taken a refreshing turn, although we admit that we miss some faces or share pity in knowing what their outcome has been.
After pretty lackluster S4 and S5 that just couldn't find their place – S6 was Élite in its new but nonetheless own right. And that cliffhanger, bebés?
