The girl is not as simple as you might think.

If you’re a huge fan of animated sitcoms, you’ve probably caught some episodes of Fox’s Bob's Burgers, a hilarious series about a large family that runs their own restaurant.

One of the main mysteries that runs through the whole series is the pink bunny hat worn by Louise, the protagonist Bob’s youngest child and the show’s wittiest antihero, extremely adored by the fandom.

The point is, the girl wears her hat during all the episodes of the series, but when it’s stolen or taken from her, she immediately returns it or finds a similar hat to replace it.

The first episode of Season 3, Ear-sy Rider (2012), proves that Louise is really attached to the ears and that they somehow help her deal with everyday anxiety and fears, as she’s not as vivid and self-confident without them as she usually is.

The Showrunner’s Idea Behind Louise’s Bunny Hat

It’s clear that Louise’s obsession with the hat isn’t accidental at all. Luckily, Bob's Burgers creator Loren Bouchard gave us his own explanation of the hat’s prominent presence on the show.

“We knew we wanted to do that with her, partly inspired by this anime called Tekkonkinkreet <...> You get a little cognitive dissonance where you experience [Louise] both as a little girl and Bugs Bunny at the same time,” Bouchard said.

In Tekkonkinkreet, a boy wears the bear head to take on part of the bear’s strength. In the case of Louise, it’s quite different, as the girl doesn’t become as sweet and cuddly as a bunny, yet still impulsive and willing to veer into chaos as a little animal.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie Gave Insight Into the Origin of the Hat

Back in 2022, the feature film and the sequel to the show’s Season 12 finally spoke about why Louise started wearing that hat. Early in the movie, the girl says her parents gave it to her so that she could feel more secure on her first day of preschool.

However, later we’re shown that the hat was actually a present marking Louise’s bravery in getting through those days. Let’s be honest, it’s such a touching revelation about this character that enhances the impression of her being the main flame of the show.

The Bob’s Burgers sitcom is now available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ .
