Why Did Peyton Alex Smith’s Damon Leave All American: Homecoming?
We miss you, Damon!
There is no doubt that spinoffs are always a gamble. Yes, the world saw such successful follow-ups, as Better Call Saul or Law & Order: SVU, and it seemed that All American: Homecoming is also a spinoff that doesn’t defame the honor of the original.
However, with the premiere of the third season the show’s fandom is fuming because it lacks the presence of some favorite regular characters, including Damon.
Where Is Damon in All American: Homecoming Season 3?
Since it has been recently reported that this season will be the final one for the All American spin-off, fans started to worry if they will see more scenes with Peyton Alex Smith’s Damon further in the show.
If you’ve already seen the new episodes, you know that they established a lengthy time jump from the events of the previous season and have Geffri Maya’s Simone and Damon trying to reconcile.
As for Damon’s sports career, his expectations of it are now deceived, as the college’s baseball program has been cut, and that means he is forced to find another route for continuing the matter of his life.
That’s why the athlete secures a position on a private club team that is located outside the US. Simone and Damon eventually part ways so that the latter could focus on baseball (and seemingly couldn’t appear in the show almost at all).
Why Did Damon Become a Recurring Character?
Back in 2023, the showrunner of All American: Homecoming, Nkechi Okoro Carroll, admitted that we won’t see Damon often in Season 3. However, he stated that he’s not leaving us forever.
“Peyton isn’t off the show; he just won’t be a series regular, which is not just the case for him but other cast members as well,” Caroll said. Yes, Kelly Jenrette's Amara, Cory Hardrict's Marcus and Rhoyle Ivy King's Nathaniel don’t also appear much in the season.
The reason for these alterations is quite simple: the CW network is currently undergoing major budget cuts, and All American: Homecoming also fell victim to them and was eventually axed as a result of the money issue.
However, if you’re a die-hard fan of this spin-off, you can still check out the new episodes of Season 3 that are released every Monday on The CW.
