The sequel show has little to do with the original hero for a valid reason.

Vikings: Valhalla ’s third and last season is finally here, wrapping up the lengthy story about the descendants of the Vikings that took the main stage in the original show.

Set around a century after Vikings’ events, the sequel never promised to introduce original beloved characters for obvious reasons. Still, considering the whole tight connection between two series, fans were also right to expect at least a couple of Easter eggs or an appearance of new characters that would have some kind of bond with their predecessors.

However, the viewers’ hopes did come true to a much lesser extent, especially since the major original character’s family fate is more than disheartening.

Inspired by numerous legends about Viking hero, Swedish and Danish king Ragnar Lothbrok, Vikings initially took a closer look at the character and his life proving that the warrior had a high potential to make his family a whole new powerful dynasty of Northern kings, but not everything was that nice and easy for the future of Ragnar’s kin after all.

Vikings’ season 4 sees Ragnar dying, leaving his legacy to be held by his sons, though all of them are also doomed to never let the dynasty prosper.

The series makes it clear that Ragnar’s children and grandchildren also die due to various reasons, with only Ragnar’s son and grandson Ubbe and Ragnar left, but the latter’s fate remains unknown anyway.

However, the sequel does have another character who is very likely to be related to Ragnar. As ancient Icelandic legends claim, Canute “the Great”, in the show portrayed by Bradley Freegard, is the heroic Viking’s distant relative since he’s believed to be Ragnar’s great-great-great grandson through his father Sweyn Forkbeard.

Apart from that, the original warrior has nothing else to do with the sequel and its storyline whatsoever.

Vikings: Valhalla’s three seasons are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
