We finally know who will take Jodie Whittaker's place in Tardis.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the fourteenth incarnation of the Time Lord – Ncuti Gatwa, who was announced as the next star of 'Doctor Who ' by the BBC on May 8.

Gatwa is the first Black and queer man to portray the Doctor full-time. He will also become the youngest version of the Time Lord to ever set foot in the Tardis – the actor is 29 years old.

The Rwanda-born Scottish actor does not boast a very extensive portfolio, as he only gained popularity recently after portraying Eric Effiong on 'Sex Education '. Before that, Gatwa starred in two TV series, 'Bob Servant' and 'Stonemouth'.

One may have also spotted the actor in a couple of films: 'Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans' and 'The Last Letter From Your Lover'.

Still, the role in 'Sex Education' was the one that opened a lot of doors for Gatwa: he was regarded as the breakout star, with his performance as Effiong garnering a lot of accolades from both critics and fans.

"There aren't quite the words to describe how I'm feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared," Ncuti said shortly after the BBC announced him as the fourteenth Doctor.

The departure of Jodie Whittaker from the show was announced in July 2021, with fans left in guesses as to who would replace her since then. Now that her successor is known, we have to wait until we get to know Gatwa's incarnation of the Doctor in season 14.

The production is set to kick off later this year, with Russell T. Davies as executive producer. The new season does not have a release date yet, but we can expect it to arrive at some point in 2023.
