There's one character in the whole show that deserves as much praise as she gets.

Grey's Anatomy is one of the most popular and long-running medical shows on television today. It's currently in its season 19, but it seems like the end is near.

Fans love the show and have remained loyal to it throughout the years. And the main reason for that is the show's characters.

The creator of the show, Shonda Rhimes, has developed them well. All the characters have their own unique personalities and storylines that help the fans understand why they are behaving each way.

Almost all of them have a particular reason to be there. But there's one character that deserves much more attention, and no, it's not Meredith Palmer.

Most fans say the show would not be the same without Dr. Miranda Bailey, brilliantly portrayed by Chandra Wilson.

In earlier seasons, Meredith and several other interns looked to her as their mentor, the one who guided them with a firm hand.

Time and time again, she's proven her ability to bond with patients, as well as her competence in the operating room.

Another thing to love about her is that while the rest of the show's characters are involved in a variety of scandals and love affairs, Bailey's first priority remains saving her patients.

She is amazingly thoughtful and open-hearted, so it was no surprise when fans found out that Rhimes drew inspiration from someone close to her when she created the character.

In the interview with Oprah Winfrey Rhimes revealed that Wilson's character was partly based on her mother.

"She's very no-nonsense. Dr. Bailey says stuff like 'These people are nasty — all they think about is sex while we're trying to save lives here.' My mother is definitely that kind of realist," the showrunner said.

Chandra Wilson has been the major part in the series from the very beginning, and has no intention of leaving it until the end. That's the kind of loyalty any showrunner could hope for from their cast.

Episode 18 of Grey's Anatomy season 19, titled Ready to Run, will air on ABC on May 11.
