Netflix is known for its continuous mission to bring old comedy movies back to life on its platform, but this time the streaming giant is going bigger. No other cast details have been given so far, but the movie is said to be already in the works.

What Will the Happy Gilmore Sequel Be About?

Endless rumors about Happy Gilmore’s potential sequel have been in the air for a while, with Sandler himself and his friend and ex-co-star Drew Barrymore teasing that the 1990s comedy is likely to get a second installment.

Now that the movie is officially in development, nothing about its storyline has been confirmed, though, given Sandler’s comeback to the leading role, the chances are that the sequel will still follow the same character, just some 30 years later.

Happy Gilmore initially revolves around the titular character whose passion about ice hockey still doesn’t let him get what he wants as he appears to be a total loser in something that he genuinely admires. Instead, life gives him an unexpected talent for playing golf leading him to big professional tournaments that Happy wins with no trouble.

Seeing how well everything goes, Happy starts using his newly discovered flair to finally pay off his grandmother’s big debts and to return her home.

Happy Gilmore 2 will become one of Adam Sandler’s numerous collaborations with Netflix. The actor produced several flicks for the streaming giant, including The Ridiculous 6 and the most recent You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah where he starred alongside his wife and daughters.

Apart from that, Sandler’s filmography of this year includes Netflix’s sci-fi drama Spaceman which eventually received quite a cold welcome from the critics.
