Whatever Happens to General Hospital’s Jason, New Writers Are to Blame
Let’s hope it’s all for the better.
Summary:
- General Hospital is an ABC soap opera that has recently undergone a major change in head writers.
- Fans of the show are hoping to see more consistent writing for beloved characters, as well as some unexpected twists.
- Steve Burton, who was brought back as Jason Morgan, has also mentioned the effect the change in writers has had on his arc.
Spring has always been associated with the most positive changes. Everything begins to bloom, the sun shines brightly, and all those long, cold winter days and nights begin to fade away, making way for more warmth and happiness. Television is no different, with many shows returning from hiatus and facing some exciting changes.
ABC's General Hospital, which has been on the air since 1963, isn't prone to major changes. But in order to move forward, change was necessary.
The first full week of March brings the wind of change to Port Charles with two simultaneous events. Behind the scenes, Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor hand over their head writer positions to Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte. On screen, Jason Morgan comes back to life...again.
What Happened to General Hospital’s Jason Morgan?
As soon as the fandom heard that Steve Burton had been brought back to General Hospital, it burst with all kinds of theories and suggestions. Whether at least some of them turned out to be true, we'll find out later, but the mystery itself was a great source of entertainment for months.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest about his experience returning to Port Charles as Jason Morgan, Burton mentioned that the change also affected his character's arc. The whole purpose of his comeback was ultimately rebooted to better suit the new direction General Hospital was taking.
“[During that process] there was a head writer switch. So apparently there was a whole different story planned and then the head writer switch happened and then they kind of rebooted [the story arc]. <...> I was like, “Oh, this is gonna be good! I cannot wait.” And it has been exactly that. Everything has been amazing,” the actor said.
From what we know of Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte, it feels like General Hospital truly is in safe and loving hands. Though the show is already loved by many as it is, the last couple of years were tiring, and the majority of storylines didn’t feel like they were well thought through at all. With a little more care, the soap will easily return to its glory.
To see what the writers have prepared for Jason Morgan, and which changes await every other Port Charles resident, tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
