What is Takes for Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly to Become Beth After That Brutal Explosion Scene
The 5th season of Yellowstone is kicking off next month and Montana is about to erupt from the core!
John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, is about to be officially sworn in as the new governor. Eyes will also be on Beth who, if you can recall, barely made it out of an explosion back in season 3. Since then Beth has developed into a character with skin so thick that you'd be crazy to cross her the wrong way.
Having become a fan favorite since then, actress Kelly Reilly dove into the details of how much effort transforming into Beth really takes and how that influences the character's show-stopping moments.
A Draining Transformation
Actors are known to become immersed into the world of their characters. In Reilly's case, the extent to which she gave herself to the role reached heights she had never envisioned. Reilly noted that a lot of Beth's intimate scenes are very challenging to drop into.
"It's hard to talk about it honestly…[because] when I'm playing her, I'm full in..." Reilly said (via ET).
In some instances, the actress admits to losing herself in the role so much that she can't recall shooting certain scenes. She also stated that a good portion of these scenes take place with Wes Bentley's Jamie.
In addition to the intense emotional weight the role carries, Reilly explained how the physical transformation she has to undergo is anything but streamlined. The special effects department has to put around 45 pieces of individual burn marks across her neck and back. Though it is a grueling process for all parties involved, Reilly feels it elevates her performance even further.
Yellowstone' s Most Confusing Moment That Still Bugs The Show's Fans
She's stated that she loves when she is all roughed up because it signifies Beth as the warrior who is "in battle the whole time". The actress says that when considering the emotional trauma Beth has been through, the scars make sense as a visual representation of her day-to-day struggles.
Looking Forward
Kelly Reilly seems to have an affection for Beth that grows with each passing season. That love transfers itself onto the screen and is a big reason why Yellowstone's massive success is prevalent across the board. With a steady 83% critic and 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Reilly's Emmy-worthy performances keep the audience captivated and returning for more. With the 5th season quickly approaching, we are all eager to see where Beth's story leads her, and perhaps an Emmy for the actress that makes it all happen.
