What Is House of the Dragon Season 3 Release Date?

The sensational prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is going great, currently halfway through its second season and as popular as ever. But seeing how the TV show is based on George Martin ’s Fire & Blood and hasn’t covered even a quarter of the novel, fans are already hungry for more Targaryen shenanigans.

House of the Dragon Season 3 was officially greenlit three days before Season 2’s premiere, so now, the question is, when exactly will the next entry be released?

Official Information About House of the Dragon Season 3

Apart from the official renewal, we’ve also seen other glimpses of information about the third season. For instance, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal previously told Inverse that the team had “a good [Season 3] plan” and the road map.” George Martin also shared a little about it in his Not a Blog post.

“Spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff... talking about the third and fourth seasons,” the author shared in 2023.

However, neither of these statements address the release date for Season 3. Why? Because aside from reports about work on the next installment being in full swing, no one has ever promised any release windows for it just yet. Still, it’s easy to deduce when the Targaryens will take to the sky again based on Season 2’s timings.

HotD Season 3 Likely Release Window

House of the Dragon Season 2 officially began production on April 11, 2023. It took just over one year for it to premiere on June 16, 2024. Currently, Season 3’s script and pre-production are supposedly all ready, which gives us an idea of when we can expect the series. Bear in mind that for S3, there’s been no official production announcement just yet.

HBO booked one of its main filming locations in Spain, the cities that represent King’s Landing, for late 2024 and early 2025. If the Season 3 production begins this summer, which it’s supposed to, we should expect the premiere in fall 2025.

There are a couple of factors that could affect this release window. For instance, if House of the Dragon Season 3 has fewer episodes, it will be complete sooner, and on the contrary, unexpected setbacks or difficult major scenes will lead to delays.
