Long-term planning played against Netflix this time.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a romantic period TV series produced by Netflix and Shondaland that has already released 2 seasons.
  • The third season has been in production since fall 2022, but hasn't been released yet.
  • In the summer of 2023, there was a leak from the official Netflix account stating that the show is about to come out on December 14.
  • Fans now believe that this was the plan all along, based on the number of recently released merch collaborations.

There's nothing more disappointing than having something you've been waiting for for almost two years delayed for two more seasons, but that's exactly what Bridgerton fans had to go through with season 3 of their favorite show.

Bridgerton's production hasn't been the luckiest when it comes to all sorts of restrictions. The show, which premiered in December 2020, was deprived of traditional promotion, offline premieres, and any kind of fan interaction because of the COVID pandemic. The ongoing restrictions were also the reason for the slowed down production of season 2.

Season 3 was supposed to be the first season without any interruptions, but that didn't work out either. Although the series was completed by May 2023, both the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes affected post-production and pushed the release date to May 2024.

Bridgerton Season 3 December Premiere Rumors

There was hope that the season would be already available today. Back in July 2023, while covering its own TUDUM convention, Netflix's Portuguese account posted the leaked date on X (formerly known as Twitter), giving fans hope for a traditional winter release in the spirit of the very first season.

Unfortunately, since December 14 is here and there is still not even a new teaser to be seen, these leaks did not match reality. However, fans doubt that they were intentionally misled. December 14th was probably the original date before so many things went wrong. And there are 5 to 10 collaboration campaigns to prove it.

It's likely that everything Bridgerton-themed, from books to wedding dresses to coffee creamer, was planned to come out around the release of season 3 of the show to maximize profit for both sides. Bridgerton's new season would get more coverage, while the products would boost sales by attracting fans of the show.

However, as the strikes made their own changes to release schedules, these collaborations simply stayed on the dates they were scheduled to happen. Because no matter how much money they might lose now, moving the whole campaign up six months would probably cost even more.

As unfortunate as it is for both the product staff and Bridgerton fans, season 3 will not be released any earlier than May 16, 2024. It will also be split into two halves, with a one-month break between them. Until then, you can watch seasons 1 and 2 of Bridgerton on Netflix.
