Seth MacFarlane’s movie is suddenly getting its first ever success since the initial release.

Netflix viewers keep giving another chance to big flops of the past years, and now it’s finally time for a forgotten western comedy to prove itself. Directed by Seth MacFarlane, the movie never made it to any critical or commercial success back in the day, though now it suddenly receives some kind of approval from the streaming’s subscribers as this week has marked the film’s unexpected entrance in Netflix’s top 10 chart in the US.

According to the most recent data from FlixPatrol, Seth MacFarlane’s comedy movie titled A Million Ways to Die in the West has climbed to the fifth position in the streaming’s top 10 in the United States, surprisingly surpassing the Jennifer Lopez-led sci-fi drama Atlas that now dropped from the number one position to the seventh place.

The reasons why the viewers are currently enjoying MacFarlane’s big 10-year-old flop remain a big mystery, though several users have stated that A Million Ways to Die in the West appears to be a perfect background film while you keep yourself busy doing some chores around the house.

Released back in 2014, A Million Ways to Die in the West features an impressive ensemble of Hollywood’s big figures like Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris, Liam Neeson and many others.

The movie follows sheep farmer Albert Stark, portrayed by director Seth MacFarlane himself, whose life suddenly turns into a series of big failures when he starts feeling threatened by a Western frontier that seemingly wants to kill him and also loses his girlfriend who now opts for a relationship with the town’s most successful businessman.

Disheartened by how things are going, Stark receives an unexpected help from a beautiful gunfighter called Anna, but then everything turns out to be even worse when Anna’s husband decides to meddle in his wife’s business.

Upon its release, A Million Ways to Die in the West received quite a cold welcome from everyone who got to see it. The movie somehow managed to break even, yet still didn’t bring any profit, garnering around $87 million against the initial budget of $40 million.

On top of that, the flick made no significant impression, landing quite average scores of 33% and 41% from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the film’s initially discouraging results in the theaters, it still doesn’t come as a big surprise that Netflix’s audience suddenly gave it a second life on the streaming.

The online users proved their common tendency to check old failed flicks out and find some merit in them quite a long time ago, and A Million Ways to Die in the West seems to have joined this list.
