Wednesday S2 Will Ditch All Romance and Lean into Horror, Star Jenna Ortega Claims
With the second season of Wednesday upcoming, Jenna Ortega takes over producing the show — and she promises quite a few much-anticipated changes.
Immediately after its release, Wednesday became a worldwide phenomenon.
The new Netflix series has brought millions of people to the screens, and for a solid few weeks, it seemed like everyone, everywhere, all at once was discussing Jenna Ortega 's hit show.
While not perfect, the series definitely took over everyone.
One of the main concerns the OG fans of Wednesday raised about the Netflix show was how it suddenly gave the main character, Wednesday, way too much interest in romance.
The original Wednesday has always been indifferent toward this kind of relationship, so it was kind of a weird decision that denied the source material.
Another issue the fans saw was that the series was not exactly horror-oriented. Wednesday is a rather dark (yet funny) franchise, and bringing more of those sinister vibes seemed crucial to many; their lack, paired with unexpected romantic storylines, has brought part of the audience to think that Netflix wasn't too keen on staying true.
Fortunately, all of this will change in season 2 as Jenna Ortega, the main star of the show who also overtakes production of S2, has recently promised.
Ortega wants Wednesday to delve deeper into the darkness — and get rid of all that pesky love!
"We've decided we want to lean into the horror more. We're ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We're going to get bolder, more dark," the actress and the show's newly-appointed producer revealed.
Despite her young age (Jenna is 20 years old now), Ortega is taking her responsibilities very seriously.
She admitted that she was scared to make a mistake in S1 as an actress, and now, after becoming Wednesday's producer, she still tries to make sure everything is going to be perfect.
"[In S1,] I tried to have as many conversations as possible with the writers. We'd decide what works and what doesn't. In preparation for a second season, we wanted to make sure that we could start the conversations earlier. I'm just so curious: I want to see the outfits, new characters, scripts," shared Jenna.
Seems like Ortega is doing her best to ensure Wednesday S2's success: getting rid of past mistakes, having discussions with the team, and going for a new approach.
We can only wish her good luck — both as an actress and as a producer — and look forward to the release of season 2!
