Wednesday Advice from Christina Ricci? Jenna Ortega Says, 'No Thanks'
When Wednesday premiered in 2022, it carried the Addams legacy into the next century, with Jenna Ortega taking on the legendary role. Why didn't she want any advice from her predecessor?
The 20-year-old actress has already come under fire for her comments about rewriting her lines without consulting the responsible people. Is this another example of her alleged arrogance?
Not quite.
In a new interview for Variety's Actors on Actors segment, Wednesday 's Jenna Ortega and The Great's Elle Fanning have met up to talk about their career paths and the difficulties they have faced.
At one point, they get to discussing Ortega's Wednesday experience, and Jenna recalls how "awkward" it was for her to follow in Christina Ricci's footsteps.
The actress was initially weirded out by doing "cosplay" of Ricci's character.
Ortega admits that Ricci is "the perfect Wednesday" for her, and she is "very, very impressed" with what she did with the character when she was just 11. Aren't we all?
Jenna says that it was strange because she didn't want to ask Christina for advice and in turn, she didn't want to offer Jenna her input.
The reason the star was reluctant to hear her predecessor's thoughts on the character is that she wanted to create her own modern version of Wednesday.
It was important to Ortega that she didn't try to "knock off" Ricci's Wednesday in any way.
We believe that she has done a marvelous job of making Wednesday her own – the character has kept up with the times, incorporating both brand-new ideas and nostalgic details from the past.
As it turns out, Jenna just respects Christina too much to ask for her help in bringing Wednesday into the 21st century. We are glad she does because what we have gotten in the show is perfect.
We wouldn't want to change a single thing about Wednesday.
Well, except for her unnecessary love triangle, but we hear that Jenna Ortega has taken care of that herself in season 2!
