Young Sheldon takes fans back to the early days of The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon Cooper.

The spinoff prequel follows the boy genius's early days growing up in a small town in Texas. He has his fair share of social mishaps, scientific breakthroughs, as well as family drama along the way as he tries to find his place in the world.

Young Sheldon is narrated by Jim Parsons, who played adult the eccentric but beloved Sheldon Cooper in the parent series, which started as a brilliant way to tie the two together and bring the story to life through his quirky and familiar voice,

but over time the show has evolved into something very different from The Big Bang Theory, and Parsons's upbeat voiceover no longer had a place. Many feel that it is time for Jim Parsons and Young Sheldon to cut ties.

The Big Bang Theory was almost entirely light-hearted and comedic, with dramatic or serious events being rare, happening maybe once or twice in a season.

Any life-altering events in the characters' lives were positive: Sheldon and Amy winning the Nobel Prize and Bernadette and Howard's surprise pregnancy are a few examples.

In contrast, Young Sheldon has moved in a direction of darker, more hard-hitting storylines. Whilst there is still a fair share of silliness and shenanigans, there is also a lot of focus on emotional, life-altering events involving not just Sheldon, but his family members too, and they're no cause for celebration.

Season 6 has been the show's darkest yet, featuring George Sr's infidelity, Georgie and Mandy 's unexpected pregnancy and rejection from her parents, and Sheldon dealing with his partner's betrayal and eventual fallout with East Texas Tech. All of this, and the worst is yet to come, with fans waiting for George Sr's ultimate death as mentioned on the parent show.

To put things simply, Jim Parsons no longer needs to narrate Young Sheldon, it just isn't working. More recent seasons have seen the series continue to branch off in a different direction from The Big Bang Theory, having established a serious tone and unique identity that does not require a comedic narration.

Parsons has played an integral part in the show and fans have loved having him involved, but now Young Sheldon needs the chance to stand alone and commit to a darker tone as it focuses on the past and present challenges facing the Cooper family.
