These actors despised each other despite their warm on-screen relationship.

At the end of 2009, the first episode of The Vampire Diaries was released. Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley were cast as the main characters.

According to the plot, they were supposed to play the lovers. And they did a great job as none of the viewers could even imagine that in reality the actors hated each other.

The relationship between Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley could not be called good. The actors did not hide the fact that they despised each other.

Nevertheless, it is impossible not to notice that the series is full of romantic scenes.

Even if you analyze each of them carefully, it is impossible to catch the falseness. And this once again proves that Wesley and Dobrev are wonderful actors with a high level of professionalism.

However, both Nina and Paul still recall with horror how uncomfortable they were with each other:

"Everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there's a fine line between love and hate, and we despised each other so much that it read as love."

Over time, their relationship improved and by the end of the series, the actors became true friends who still communicate and delight fans with photos taken together.

However, Paul and Nina weren't the only actors who hated each other at first. Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham were not on the best of terms, either:

"Ian and I used to not like each other at all. We hated each other first season. […] We wanted to kill each other, but I was a kid and we were both very strong people. I was still finding myself."

Like Paul and Nina, the actors became friends over the course of filming, and got especially close when their characters were stuck on the Other Side in Season 6.

All the events of the series took place in the small town of Mystic Falls. An ordinary student Elena Gilbert falls in love with the mysterious handsome Stefan Salvatore.

Everything would be fine, but the character of Paul Wesley is a vampire who is over a hundred years old. To make matters worse, Stefan's brother Damon soon arrives in Mystic Falls.

Both brothers fall in love with Elena and the battle for her heart begins.
