The show’s version of him was just a child’s play.

The whole world has been patiently waiting for George Martin ’s next instalment for A Song of Ice and Fire, titled The Winds of Winter, but the hope seems to be fading more and more every day.

The author’s sixth book will pick up the story right where the previous one left it and will focus on the events of the show’s last couple of seasons — in this case, taking into account all the hatred that Game of Thrones received for its final season, the hopes for some plot changes in the next book are quite reasonable.

To everyone’s delight, this is what Martin did in The Winds of Winter’s preview chapters — and some major changes are coming in one important character’s way.

The Winds of Winter Will Dive Deeper Into Euron Greyjoy’s Shocking Past

Back in 2016, Martin introduced one of The Winds of Winter’s first chapters titled “The Forsaken,” where the story is recounted from Aeron Greyjoy’s point of view.

There was no word about the character ever since he protested against his brother Euron being proclaimed King of the Iron Islands in A Feast for Crows, but in the unpublished book’s chapter it is made clear that Aeron’s rebellion turned out the worst way possible for him and he now was being held captive by Euron himself.

The story primarily goes deeper into Aeron’s nightmares and hallucinations that make him question his own beliefs, yet probably a more significant detail here resurfaces during a talk about Euron Greyjoy’ past deeds. Those include the murder of his three brothers and sexual abuse of Aeron when the latter was younger.

The Winds of Winter’s Euron Greyjoy Is Far From What We Saw in Game of Thrones

In the series, the character didn’t really catch the viewers’ attention since he was the one to just fool around, spending most of his time drinking and recounting endless, often even blatant jokes.

Though Martin’s The Winds of Winter is yet to be released, it’s already done significant work proving that Euron was that one character whose real intentions were put in a very wrong way in Game of Thrones.

In the upcoming book, Euron’s ambitious plans go way beyond getting the Iron Throne for himself, thus setting up a potential new storyline for yet another big villain in A Song of Ice and Fire.
