Unsettling Reason Wizards of Waverly Had to Change One Character's Name
Wizards of Waverly Place may be a kids' show, but some writing decisions were made purely due to adult problems.
Episode 12 of Wizards of Waverly Pod, hosted by Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise, has recently aired and uncovered some ugly truths about the show.
This episode's guest, Josh Sussman, who had a recurring role as little giant Hugh Normous, had a few surprising things to say about his experiences on the set.
For instance, he revealed that his character was originally supposed to have a different last name.
Turns out, Hugh Normous (which is a speaking name because the character was a child adopted into the family of giants) was once Hugh Mungus.
Frankly, it's a good thing that they changed it. Hugh Mungus just doesn't have the same ring to it!
According to Josh, the reason the name was scrapped was that the Disney people googled it and found out that an adult porn actor went by the same name (plus, a lot of inappropriate pictures came up when you searched for "Hugh Mungus").
We know you are already opening Google to check if it's true, but let us save you the trouble (and the trauma) – it is.
Jennifer Stone, who played Harper Finkle, went on to say that she understood the struggle, as she apparently also had an unfortunate namesake who was an Eastern European adult movie star.
David DeLeuise, who was Jerry Russo on the show, even suggested having the other Jennifer on their podcast, but the original Jennifer wasn't all that thrilled with the idea (and we don't blame her).
By the way, Josh Sussman is 39 years old now, but he looks like the last 15 years haven't happened. He has pretty much the same teenage vibe that he had in 2008.
Even his hair hasn't changed! Maybe he actually is a wizard and drinks a youth potion with every meal…
Wizards of Waverly Pod keeps giving us the 2000s nostalgia that we deserve. There are already 13 episodes, and we really hope that Jennifer and David don't stop there!
Without a Wizards reunion, this is literally all we have to reminisce about the good old days.
