Umbrella Academy Theory Explains Sloane's Fate in The Most Heartbreaking Way

The third season of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix 's superhero TV series based on the comic book of the same name, ended in spectacular fashion, leaving fans wondering about the fate of their beloved characters.

After Reginald Hargreeves restarted the entire timeline of the universe to bring back his wife, our protagonists once again find themselves in a strange new world, this time stripped of their powers.

One of the most heartbreaking consequences of this event was the sudden disappearance of Sloane Hargreeves, a member of the Sparrow Academy (an alternate timeline counterpart to the Umbrella introduced in season 3) who had become romantically involved with Luther and eventually married him near the end of the season.

Fans were furious at this turn of events, with many expressing a desire to quit the show altogether if their favorite character was not brought back to the screen.

So is it even possible for Sloane to exist in this timeline? After all, it is likely that none of the superpowered children were ever born because they were never needed in this timeline. But fans think otherwise. Getting rid of such a great character who was just beginning to be developed is not a smart move.

According to one Reddit theory by user ArronMaui, the best way to bring her back and build drama is to give Sloane the same treatment Marvel gave their Gamora character after Infinity War.

Sloane could exist in this new universe, the only catch being that she most likely has no memories of Luther, nor does she have her powers. This presents an excellent opportunity for a compelling story arc as Luther searches for his lost wife, with whom he had so little precious time before everything turned upside down.

Seeing him reconnect with Sloane would be a great way to deepen both characters and add more dimensions to their relationship.

Only time will tell which way the writers ultimately go with Sloane's character. Choosing to simply remove her from the story would be a huge missed opportunity, not to mention the potential backlash from angry fans.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 started production on February 6, 2023, the release date has not yet been announced.
