Umbrella Academy Narrowly Avoided An Embarrassing Game of Thrones Mistake
Remember the notorious Starbucks cup incident on Game of Thrones set? Well, turns out it's an easy trap to fall into.
Apparently, The Umbrella Academy could have made the same mistake that once prompted a lot of buzz for Game of Thrones.
According to the blooper reel from season 2 shared by the series star Aidan Gallagher, the crew could have totally forgot to remove a coffee cup when they filmed one scene set in the 1960s Dallas.
What might have worked in the modern scenery was definitely a no-no for the 60s. Luckily for the crew, actor David Castañeda, who portrays Diego, was quick enough to notice the "rogue" cup and have it removed by another star, Tom Hopper, who plays Luther.
Naturally, the incident was accompanied by Castañeda shouting "Game of Thrones!" as Hopper took the cup away. It seems that the notorious GoT mistake will forever be dubbed in the HBO show's honor.
The Starbucks cup incident in Game of Thrones stole headlines back in 2019, when the cup secured itself a cameo in the final season of the HBO hit. The response to the "cameo" was so massive that HBO had to acknowledge the mistake and edit it out.
GoT star Emilia Clarke later revealed that the one who left the cup in the frame was her co-star Conleth Hill, who portrayed Lord Varys in the show.
The Umbrella Academy, on the contrary, can now cherish David Castañeda as its hero: after all, the actor saved the showrunners the trouble to either reshoot the scene or having to edit the blunder out.
The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for the fourth season recently, which will also become its final one. The premiere date is yet to be announced.
