Ugly Criminal Minds On-Set Drama That Led to Thomas Gibson Firing
Everyone has had moments of anger, but the most important thing is to stay calm at work. Thomas Gibson apparently didn't follow that rule.
Since 2005, Criminal Minds has been known for its gruesomeness and a plethora of serial killers. Millions of fans still follow each new investigation of the behavioral analysis group with bated breath.
During the years of filming, a lot of things happened that can be no less shocking than the plot itself.
Thomas Gibson's Hotch was a favorite character for many, as he was well-balanced and calm in almost any situation, and remained a reliable leader of BAU.
However, at a time when other actors, such as Mandy Patinkin, were leaving the show at their own request, Thomas Gibson was fired in a major scandal that came as a surprise to many fans.
It turns out that in real life, Gibson is nowhere near being as calm and collected as his character, Hotch.
The history of violating not only set discipline but also the law began in 2010. In December 2010, while shooting season 5, Thomas pushed the assistant director.
Representatives of the actor did not comment on the incident in any way, but it is known that after that the actor had to attend anger management classes.
Three years later, on January 8, 2013, Thomas was arrested for drunk driving in Los Angeles, resulting in the actor's driver's license being suspended.
Later, the actor pleaded guilty in one of the episodes of drunk driving and received 36 months of probation, a fine and was forced to attend alcohol education classes.
And in 2016, another incident occurred, leading to the producers first suspending and then firing Gibson.
In July 2016, Thomas reportedly kicked the screenwriter, Virgil Williams, due to misunderstanding of the actor's character remarks. It is still unclear how strong the kick was and whether it was even an intended or accidental one.
As a result, the actor was removed from the set for two weeks. Based on the results of the trial, it was decided not just to remove Gibson, but to dismiss him in light of his history of violations.
It turned out that Gibson was not only in trouble with the law and the show's creators, but also with some co-stars.
It is known that Thomas had a strained relationship with the actor who played Derek Morgan, Shemar Moore, because the latter was constantly late to the set.
At one point, Moore even presented the entire crew watches, what became the internal joke of Criminal Minds team.
Fans still miss the character of Gibson and hope that he will appear in the reboot Criminal Minds: Evolution.
However, in light of the scandal surrounding the actor's departure from the series, this is unlikely to be the case.
