Two Solid Reasons Beetlejuice Sequel Will Be Better Than the Original
The long-awaited sequel to the comedy horror hit is finally underway, and everything we know about it so far only makes us want to see it as soon as possible.
It's been 35 years since the release of Burton's original masterpiece, and next year we will get to enjoy part 2.
1988's Beetlejuice tells the story of a deceased couple who hire a malicious spirit to drive out the terrible people now inhabiting their former home.
The movie was a commercial success and a critical darling, spawning several extensions of the Beetlejuice universe, including a television series, video games, and a musical.
Hopes are high for the sequel, but there's no need to worry – the big names are returning to reprise their roles.
Michael Keaton will portray the titular character, Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder will be back as Delia and Lydia Deetz, and Justin Theroux will join the movie in a new role.
As if that weren't enough to ensure the second installment's success, there's more. Well, specifically, there are two more reasons for you to be longing for the upcoming horror.
Wednesday 's star Jenna Ortega will appear as Lydia's daughter (whoever dreamed of Winona and Jenna playing mother and daughter, rejoice!), and the one and only Monica Bellucci, best known for her portrayal of Persephone in the Matrix franchise, has landed the role of Beetlejuice's wife.
Tim Burton's vision for the movie will be based on the script written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (the people who created Wednesday).
We don't know about you, but we are confident that the sequel will be as comedically macabre as possible (maybe even more so than the original)!
The plot of the movie is still under wraps, but judging by the fact that Lydia is already a mom in the sequel, it will probably pick up decades later after the first installment.
Beetlejuice 2 is set to come out on September 6, 2024, and we seriously can't wait. Are you as excited as we are?
