Two Big Bang Theory Stars Still Hang Out to Do 'Nerd Things' Together
When the hit sitcom Big Bang Theory ended its much-lauded and award-winning 12-season run in 2019, it left many viewers feeling sad and not a little betrayed.
What few people know is that the announcement the show wouldn't renew its option was a surprise to some cast members. Add to that rumors that actor Jim Parsons who plays the popular character Sheldon did not want to continue the show and you have a recipe for trouble.
Assuming some cast members were surprised by the news, did that affect the close bond the actors shared? As far as we can tell, everyone knew the show was winding down, but not everyone knew the end would occur so soon.
One year later, during the first days of Covid and the imminent lockdown to combat it, Mayim Bialik sat for an interview. In the interview, Bialik, who played Amy on the show, said that one of the reasons the show ended was because Jim Parsons, the actor who plays Sheldon, didn't want to continue his role.
Young Sheldon Just Reminded Us How Close the Finale Actually Is
At the time, Parsons was 46 years old and wanted to pursue other opportunities in the industry. It seems Parsons wasn't the only one wanting to try different things. Both he and Bialik had produced episodes of Big Bang Theory, but wanted to branch out and take on new experiences. Together, they produced the show Call Me Kat starring Bialik. Both have also done voice overs for the Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon.
It seems everyone is doing well. Most, if not all, the cast members are still landing roles and focusing on their families. The cast is also still very much a family. When possible, they attend functions and charity galas as a group.
Bialik has continued to stay close friends with all her BBT costars, but is especially close to Parsons and Kevin Sussman who played Stuart. Bialik and Sussman still manage to link up occasionally to play an ARG she described as being similar to Dungeons and Dragons. It's a tradition they've had for "years" according to Bialik. Simply put, Bialik states, "We do nerd things together."
When asked, the show's creators stated they're open to the idea of a reunion show/series of sorts, but not in the immediate future. For now, fans can check out the "oral history" of the sitcom which the cast reunited to produce. Titled The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, is now available as a boxed set on DVD and Blu-ray. If the cast never reunites for a series, at least they went out with a bang.
