Twilight Saved Pattinson From Going Broke After Harry Potter Spending Spree
Before the Twilight movie saga sank its teeth into the global box office, its main star was a part of another iconic franchise.
Despite his 2005 gig in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Robert Pattinson could have go broke if it wasn't for the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie series.
Before going pale and shiny for the vampire drama, Pattinson donned a Hufflepuff mantle as Harry Potter's Cedric Diggory — one of the Triwizard Tournament champions who tragically died in the end of Goblet of Fire at the hands of Lord Voldemort.
According to the actor himself, the role of the Hogwarts heartthrob was so lucrative for him that he almost considered dropping the acting career and lived off the Harry Potter money for some time — before almost going financially desperate.
"I spent a lot of time living off the 'Harry Potter' money," Pattinson told GQ. "I moved to an apartment in Soho in London. I really thought I was gonna do music at that point. ... I was doing a lot of gigs all the time. I was just constantly doing open mics all the time. And then I ran out of money, basically. I was definitely going in the wrong direction in terms of a career up until 'Twilight.'"
Between his Harry Potter gig and the breakout role in Twilight, three years passed. The first Twilight movie hit theaters in 2008, immediately propelling Pattinson and his female co-star Kristen Steward (Bella Swan) to stardom. Despite the two later not shying away from shading the vampire saga, it has definitely paved a way to a successful career for both of them.
The saga came to an end after its final chapter, Breaking Dawn, premiered in theaters after being divided into two movies. Part 2 hit big screens in 2012, bringing the Twilight phenomenon to an end — however, the saga remains an iconic (albeit cringeworthy) part of pop culture up to these days.
