True-Life Explanation Why Rachel and Joshua's Relationship in Friends Creeps You Out
Gimme a “Y”!
Summary:
- Friends is an iconic series that remains so even today.
- Out of many cringey relationships the one of Rachel and Joshua was the most hated with the audience.
- The reason why they seem so out of sync in the show was because in real life the actors were broken up.
When we don’t know what to watch, our beloved sitcoms come to the rescue. Old time shows just have this special vibe that is working perfectly for creating a comforting atmosphere. And the most common choice is of course Friends.
The series about the everyday lives of six best friends is the one that many of us watched hundreds of times and know all the dialogues by heart, but still laugh at every joke like for the first time.
There are many funny and also dramatic storylines in the series, and a lot of them are centered around the many relationships that are portrayed in the series. Some of them are beloved, and some the audience wishes never happened.
Like the one with Rachel and Joshua…
This pairing happened in season 4, when Rachel was working in Bloomingdale’s and Joshua came to buy new clothes after his divorce. Rachel had a huge crush on the man, and since their first meeting she started acting like a crazy woman, desperate to make him fall in love with her.
The fans of the show didn’t like the storyline from the very start of it, and felt that the actors seemed out of sync in some way. The Joshua character seemed to cringe while being around Rachel and not being into her even when he already admitted he liked her.
It felt like there’s absolutely no chemistry between them, but there’s a reason for that and it is a rather sad one. Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel, was dating Joshua actor Tate Donovan before the show. And right when the filming took place, they were breaking up.
That’s the reason why their relationship seemed so wrong even on the screen. There was no way to save it in any way, because Donovan was feeling devastated at the time as apparently the break up hit him harder than he thought it would.
In an interview with HuffPost Live, he said: "It was horrible. It was so tough. I remember getting back to my dressing room and just weeping."
Well, now it all makes a lot of sense… But you want to have a look at the couple once again, binge Friends season 4 on Max.
