They fear she could potentially ruin the overall impression of the season.

The first teaser for True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season of HBO's acclaimed anthology crime drama, has finally arrived.

And it did not disappoint fans, with its dark, northern aesthetic, potential dip into supernatural themes like the first season, and Jodie Foster in the lead role of Detective Liz Danvers.

However, one element may end up spoiling the entire perception of the season.

Danvers' partner, Detective Evangeline Navarro, portrayed by Kali Reis, got a mixed reception from some fans, as far as can be judged from a 2-minute teaser.

To them, Reis' performance looked wooden and stiff, and the whole "a woman of color with piercings and tattoos can't get along with her white partner" setup was rather annoying and forced.

They point out, given the fact that Reis is a professional boxer, that this is unfortunately a common thing for wrestlers/fighters turned actors, with rare exceptions.

The same can be said for Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano, who didn't exactly have great acting skills.

That wouldn't have been a big deal in an action movie, for example, but in a series that relies heavily on its characters, it could prove to be a major problem, especially when put next to an acting veteran like Jodie Foster.

And as the teaser suggests, Navarro will play a major role in the plot, so there will be a lot of her.

"[...] Studios keep trying to find the Rock 2.0 and I don't think they've found it. And even the Rock's schtick is getting old and tiresome," Reddit user heliostraveler said.

Of course, it is too early to make any real assumptions, as it could easily be the teaser's fault for making it look that way. Also, the trope of the partners not liking each other has been in the show since the first season.

The story is set in Ennis, Alaska, as detectives try to solve the case of eight men who disappeared during a long winter night.

The release date has not yet been announced, but the teaser says it will be this year.
