Fans have been demanding a sequel from the director for almost ten years.

The first season of True Detective, written by Nic Pizzolatto, was critically acclaimed and became one of the most popular TV dramas of 2014.

Viewers actively discussed the show, trying to determine who was the killer in the series and who was the real detective.

The TV show ended up with an extremely high IMDb score of 8.9 and was nominated for 4 prestigious Golden Globes and the same number of Emmys (winning one).

Matthew McConaughey's acting was an unexpected revelation, after which it became customary to say that the release of True Detective marked the flowering of the actor's dramatic talent, previously not very well known from this side.

This phenomenon was even called "The McConaissance."

The resounding success of the first season of the series also became a curse for the rest of the seasons – the first season set the bar so high that neither of the next two instalments could match it, and were doomed to endless comparisons with the McConaughey/Harrelson story.

After recently posting a photo with Matthew and Woody, Nic was once again asked about the sequel and gave fans a detailed answer:

"I'd have to first write a story that I, the actors, and the network all loved. Loved so much it feels worth revisiting something we already did the right way. Then the actors would have to really want to do it. Then the network would have to foot the bill, which would be considerable. So that's a lot."

So don't expect a continuation of the first season of True Detective, which seems to be for the best.

The new fourth season deserves special attention, which moves to an unusual place for the series – Alaska. As the long winter night descends on the town of Ennis, six people working at an Arctic research station vanish without a trace.

To solve the case, Detective Liz Danvers, played by Jodie Foster, must confront the darkness within and delve into the terrifying secrets hidden beneath the permafrost.

There is no exact date for the release of the fourth season of True Detective, but it is known for sure that it will be released in 2023.
