Tom Felton Has Never Watched Harry Potter, And There's a Pretty Good Reason Why
Tom Felton, best known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, recently revealed that he's never properly watched Harry Potter.
Felton spoke to Capital FM to promote his new book, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard.
The memoir talks about being a teenager and growing up while being a star in one of cinema's biggest franchises. They were talking about his book, and naturally, the subject of the films came up.
Harry Potter and its spin-offs have become the fourth-highest-grossing film franchise in history, with the 11 films averaging almost $900 million box office gross. Felton and his co-stars became cultural icons because of Harry Potter.
But Roman, one of Capital FM's hosts, ashamedly revealed to Felton that he had never seen Harry Potter. "If it makes you feel any better," Felton responded, "I haven't actually watched the films properly."
Felton went on to say that he watched the films at their premieres and his friends will turn it on when they watch television together, but he hasn't really sat down to re-watch each of the films since their release. He has a perfectly good reason, though.
"I'm saving them."
Felton said he looks forward to doing it with his family, since his three older brothers had fallen asleep while watching them at the premiere.
He wants to properly binge the movies when he and his family can watch them together. Roman offered to set up a movie night, where he and Felton can watch them for the first time.
This same subject came up in 2020 when Felton revealed to his fans that he hadn't seen the movies since their release.
He livestreamed a video of himself on Instagram watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first installment of the series.
He gave commentary on some behind-the-scenes and visibly got choked up when John Williams' iconic score first appeared.
Felton only watched a few minutes on the livestream, and based on his interview with Capital FM, was never able to finish.
Felton's memoir gives a deep dive into the mentality of an 11-year-old who was cast in a promising new franchise, only to be immediately thrust into stardom.
It goes into several behind-the-scenes stories and subplots, including co-star Emma Watson's famous crush on the young Felton.
It covered his recent struggles with mental health that he's faced post-Harry Potter, and the effect the franchise had on him as an adult.
