Tom Cruise Ruled Top Gun: Maverick Set With an Iron Fist
Thirty-six years after his action hit Top Gun, Tom Cruise upped the ante with the sequel, titled Top Gun: Maverick.
With his Ray-Ban glasses, leather jacket and beaming Hollywood smile, the actor makes even the most dangerous stunts in the movie look easy. Which is not to say about how the things were behind the camera.
Apparently, the makers of Top Gun: Maverick were really afraid for Cruise's wellbeing as he was prone to ride those Kawasaki motorcycles without a helmet on.
That being said, the actor is also known to be extremely disciplined, especially when it comes to his fitness routine. With Cruise's risk-taking attitude, those things seem not to be mutually exclusive.
Tom Cruise's willingness to go above and beyond to do all the stunts himself might have looked like the actor had a death wish.
The audiences have seen footages of him doing borderline impossible things for the Mission: Impossible franchise, for instance. All him. No stuntmen, nothing.
Tom Cruise has long been rumored to be not the easiest fellow to work with. Which is never a reason for filmmakers not to work with him, though. There are not so many actors with such kind of merit and status like Cruise, after all.
The rules Cruise has on sets of the movies have also become legendary, albeit not always in the best sense of the word.
There was a strict guideline at the set of Maverick: no taking pictures. Ever. Complete taboo. Otherwise, the repercussions would be severe, up to being fired off the set.
All things considered, those antics, however over-the-top they may seem to an outsider, might make sense to the very actor – since Top Gun: Maverick has become truly a passion project for Tom Cruise, his pride and legacy.
As Top Gun: Maverick becoming a global box office juggernaut and even being nominated for the Oscars, it is safe to say Tom Cruise's legacy will live on.
