Tom Cruise Breaks MCU Fans' Hearts Denying Iron Man Rumors
At least we all have some clarity now.
The best thing about movies as iconic as Iron Man is that they tend to create their own lore. Thanks to dedicated fans who are always looking for nostalgic tidbits to add to the story of its creation, there are a lot of interesting facts and details that you can enjoy even after the movie itself is over.
One of the bigger rumors that everyone seemed to enjoy is the one where Tom Cruise was supposed to be the actor to portray Tony Stark before Robert Downey Jr. came into the picture.
And while everyone now understands how right it was to go with a riskier option, the fandom really enjoyed the idea of the Mission Impossible star trying his hand at the metal suit.
Well, now it's time to say goodbye to those fantasies, as the myth has been busted by none other than Tom Cruise himself. He was asked about these rumors that have been flying around the internet for years at CinemaCon ahead of Mission Impossible: Fallout.
The interviewer asked how close the actor was to actually get the role of Iron Man, and the answer was not the one that would make the fans happy:
“Not close. Not close. I love Robert Downey Jr, and I can’t imagine anyone else doing that role. And I think it’s perfect for him,” the actor said.
As much as everyone agrees, it would be a shame to see a huge action movie star like Tom Cruise not try his hand at a superhero role at least once.
The good news is that the actor states that he is open to trying anything as long as the premise, characters, and idea behind the movie seem good enough.
After all, it would be interesting to see how many stunts Cruise would be able to do himself in production as full of CGI as most of today's superhero movies. It could be a great learning experience for both the actor and the studio.
