This Young Sheldon Fan Theory Got Real Dark Real Fast (But Still Looks Plausible)
Young Sheldon is notoriously far from canon-conscious, but fans think there is a limit.
The Big Bang Theory makes it absolutely clear that Georgie doesn't have a child, at least as far as the show knows. When it comes to prequels, it's pretty hard to change something like that without ultimately retconning the entire universe — something fans don't think will happen, despite Young Sheldon 's cavalier attitude toward the canon.
However, the prequel still sticks to the storyline of Georgie accidentally impregnating Mandy, which is why they got married in the first place. Since The Big Bang Theory never mentions Georgie's child, there is a dark fan theory on Reddit that has the potential to actually be true for Young Sheldon.
According to Redditor Zoidzers, since Georgie's child doesn't exist on The Big Bang Theory, the only way for Young Sheldon to be canonically faithful is... to somehow get rid of the baby.
So, the fan continues, either Mandy loses the child or something happens to her baby before Sheldon goes to Germany.
That's just depressing.
While The Big Bang Theory universe may occasionally lean toward drama, it has never been anything like Grey's Anatomy to suddenly pull off heartbreaking child loss storylines. Still, fans can't think of any other way for the prequel to make sense.
A certain segment of the fandom, however, believes that Georgie's child is not as much of a continuity issue as people want it to be.
"The reason Georgie wouldn't reference his kids when talking to Sheldon is because they have no real connection to Sheldon and certainly would not have been responsibility Sheldon for whom he needed or would be expected to step up like with his mom and sister which was the source of the issue that caused the estrangement," Redditor papadoc19 noted.
Young Sheldon is currently in its sixth season, with new episodes airing on Thursdays on CBS.
