This Vampire Diaries Theory Will Make You Love the Finale Even If You Are No Delena Fan
Maybe that is exactly what Damon deserves.
Although many fans of The Vampire Diaries feel that the show went too easy on Damon in the finale, with Stefan granting him a human life to live with Elena, some disagree.
There are many crimes that Damon has committed over the years, some of which he hasn't paid for yet. And what could be worse than suffering in a simple human body?
The finale suggests that both Damon and Elena will get their happy ending and live a normal human life, having children and staying out of any kind of mystery.
However, this was not satisfying for pretty much anyone except hardcore Delena fans. And even then, it didn't feel natural for someone who had been through so much together to settle down in the suburbs.
In the long run, though, both Damon and Elena were probably doomed by this decision. Damon, clearly not mature and healed enough to move on with his human life, would not be ready to give up his habits, fans believe.
Still grieving for his brother and the life he once had, he would likely be extremely depressed, which would not help his drinking.
Spending the rest of her life with an emotionally unstable alcoholic: is that really what anyone would want for Elena Gilbert?
It's clear that their life together wouldn't work unless they both put more work into it. However, it's hard to imagine Damon Salvatore willingly going to therapy and not blaming everything on Elena as they move forward.
Since he has been known to manipulate and gaslight her throughout the seasons, he might be even worse off trapped in a human body with no way out, no matter how bad his mental state gets.
This interpretation of the finale may seem a bit too dark, but many viewers would rather believe it than the presumed domestic bliss straight out of Wattpad fanfic that writers have suggested instead.
If you're feeling nostalgic and want to re-watch The Vampire Diaries to come to your own conclusion about the finale, you can do so by streaming the show on Netflix or MAX.
