Young Sheldon's future has been on our minds for quite some time. As with any prequel, there is not much left up to the imagination – the canon of its predecessor has taken care of that.

Sheldon is already 13 years old in Young Sheldon 's season 6, which means that Iain Armitage's time on the show is almost up. Why is that?

The Big Bang Theory has established that Sheldon moves from Medford, Texas to Pasadena, California at the age of 14 to begin his adult life as a CalTech student.

This is where he would later meet the gang and his future wife and have all the life that we have witnessed.

All of this is a year away (at best). Young Sheldon's writers can continue to slow-pace the plot and postpone the imminent departure of the title character, but the days are numbered – the actors are growing out of their characters' ages as is.

With our fave genius' moving away, the family is having a difficult time as well (and not just because of him). George's character arc will take a darker turn – he will cheat on Mary and later pass away.

That same year, Georgie will get married for the first time (unfortunately, not the last) and will have to handle taking care of his mom and sister too.

If season 7 covers that year, Young Sheldon risks losing its sitcom status. Perhaps, it will mark the end of the show's sitcom era, not the show itself?

We can hope for the best, but executive producer Steve Holland hints at the show's likely conclusion in an interview for TVLine.

While not confirming that season 7 will be the last, Holland discusses the possibility that it could be, saying "I don't think we'll know for a while, but I don't think it will affect the first half of [season 7]." With season 7's fate hanging in the balance, the producer believes that the second half "will play out differently."

We guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens, right?

As much as we'd all (along with CBS) like to see Young Sheldon survive past Sheldon's 14th birthday, there will be some tough decisions to make (maybe even changing the name and genre of the show itself?).

For now, we still have a lot to look forward to, so let's focus on the positives (or rather the negatives ). Chances are that season 7 will turn out to be a bumpy ride!
