This Is How Charlie From Willy Wonka & Chocolate Factory Looks Now
Even years later, he retained most of his recognizable features.
Many of those who grew up in the 2000s have seen Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Aside from Johnny Depp 's flamboyant portrayal of Willy Wonka, most viewers remember the titular puppy-eyed kid with a golden ticket, Charlie, portrayed by Freddie Highmore.
Well, nearly two decades later, he is no longer a child, though he retains much of his childhood innocence.
Highmore recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he talked to Kimmel about a particularly strange moment in his career, when he was pushed into a dark broom closet because the host of the talk show he was invited to preferred not to meet the guests beforehand.
The name, however, remains a mystery. Now 31, he has surprisingly managed not to change too much in appearance.
His sparkling eyes and signature smile still make him recognizable years later, even with a bit of stubble on his face.
Freddie also gives the impression of a surprisingly humble and down-to-earth person, in stark contrast to some other celebrities, appearing likeable and with a charming sense of humor.
Highmore is best known for his childhood roles in a variety of films that are now fondly remembered by many.
In addition to the aforementioned Tim Burton movie, he appeared in Finding Neverland (2004), August Rush (2007), The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), and several others.
He also voiced the dæmon Pantalaimon in The Golden Compass (2007), the first big-screen adaptation of Philip Pullman's books.
Since the 2010s, however, his career has slowed down considerably, which is common for many child actors.
Freddie continues to appear on the big screen and television from time to time, although these roles are not as big as they used to be.
The actor also prefers to avoid social media and keep his personal life private, which is completely respectable, even if unusual for actors these days.
Freddie is currently starring in the TV series The Good Doctor, which is now in its sixth season.
A remake of a South Korean series of the same name, the story revolves around young surgeon Shaun Murphy, portrayed by Highmore, who is autistic with savant syndrome, working at a prestigious hospital in San Jose, California.
Episode 21 of The Good Doctor season 6 is scheduled to be released on April 24, 2023.
