This Hollywood A-Lister Once Pissed Off the Dracula Director by Auditioning Completely Wasted

When we talk about acting, we typically address two main approaches: regular acting where an actor does their best to portray their character accurately, and method acting where an actor essentially becomes their character and embraces every bit of their personality. However, there might be more to the latter approach.

You see, method acting is a brilliant yet incredibly dangerous tool. Most method actors have stories about how their colleagues hated them for all the shenanigans they pulled off while in-character — and even worse, most method actors found themselves in a really dark place because of submerging into their characters’ twisted psyche and almost losing themselves.

So method acting, while efficient, also puts additional risks on the mental health and even safety of the person practicing it and those around them. But method acting can be fun, too!

George Clooney is, without a doubt, one of the most famous actors in the world, and his reputation precedes him. Francis Ford Coppola is an iconic director and one of the most respected creators in Hollywood.

Admittedly, when Clooney decided to try and work with Coppola, they had all the chances of making a masterpiece together.

But then Clooney resorted to the funniest way of method acting: heavy drinking.

"I auditioned for Francis Ford Coppola for Dracula, and I was supposed to play a drunk guy, and I got really drunk to do it — because I thought that was the best way to do it. Then Coppola called my agent and said, 'He was drunk!' That didn't work out,” George Clooney shared with E! News.

Who would’ve guessed that the acclaimed director would not appreciate the star coming to the audition completely wasted?

We’ve got to hand it to George Clooney, it was a bold strategy, getting hammered to audition for a drunkard character. Truly, his method-acting genius was ahead of its time, and it's a shame Francis Ford Coppola didn’t see the innovation for what it was. They would have won so many Academy Awards together!

Actually, just in case: heavy drinking is not exactly method acting. We don’t want to be responsible for any aspiring actors’ failures.
