Although the spoiled king was extremely memorable, he wasn't even close to being truly psychotic and terrifying.

Summary:

  • Game of Thrones has featured an impressive number of characters, but only a few can be considered outright villains
  • Joffrey Baratheon is arguably the most memorable of them all, as fans remember him almost five years after the show ended
  • However, his deeds pale in comparison to another villain who was far more terrifying in every way

Over the course of its eight-season run, Game of Thrones has featured a myriad of complex characters, almost all of whom weren't entirely black and white and had their own share of sympathetic qualities and major flaws, which only made them more unique.

Still, some of them, like the Night King or Cersei Lannister, fit perfectly into the category of more or less classic villains, but the title of the most memorable villain of the series definitely goes to Joffrey Baratheon.

Fans Hated Joffrey the Second He Appeared on Screen

Brilliantly portrayed by Jack Gleeson, the product of Jaime and Cersei's forbidden love was absolutely despicable and made every fan of the show want to snap his neck.

Thankfully, Olenna Tyrell made sure his demise was brutal and incredibly satisfying, making fans sigh with relief as they watched the evil brat die of poison at his own wedding.

But while Joffrey is forever etched in the minds of everyone who has watched the show, his exploits pale in comparison to another stunning villain who is all too often overlooked.

Ramsay Bolton, portrayed by Iwan Rheon, made his debut in season two, but it wasn't until season three that he really began to shine in all his disturbing glory, giving the young king a run for his money in terms of atrocities.

Ramsay Was Much More Terrifying in Every Way

While Joffrey did what he did simply because he was a spoiled idiot corrupted by his delusions of being king (when in fact he had little real power), if he had been stripped of his title, he would have acted like the terrified coward that he is.

Ramsay, on the other hand, was truly terrifying, as he genuinely enjoyed inflicting pain and suffering on others, and if he had been born into a family of farmers, for example, he would surely have just tortured helpless animals.

Another key difference between the two is that Ramsay wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty, because while Baratheon often relied on his minions to do his bidding, Bolton preferred to do the horrible deeds himself, even when he could have easily delegated them to someone else.

Still, it's curious that this heinous character, portrayed by an incredibly charismatic actor, isn't mentioned as often as the young king when it comes to Game of Thrones' greatest villains.
