This Family Guy Video Perfectly Sums Up Succession in a Nutshell
Sometimes the most complex plots can be perfectly summed up in a 5-minute comedy sketch.
Seth MacFarlane is certainly no stranger to cleverly spoofing the most popular shows and movies.
From The Orville, which started out as a parody of Star Trek and went on to become one of the most criminally underrated sci-fi shows of recent years, to American Dad!, which also contains constant homages to various media, he has done it all.
But his most famous project, and the one that has spawned the most iconic parodies, is of course Family Guy.
The animated sitcom has had a wide variety of spoofs throughout its run, from short cutaway gags to the iconic hour-long Star Wars specials Blue Harvest, Something, Something, Something, Dark Side and It's a Trap!
With the release of the fourth and final season of the TV series Succession, we would like to revisit the Family Guy's take on the critically acclaimed show, which occurred in an episode 14 of season 20 called HBO-No.
This episode also parodies the TV series Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies.
MacFarlane's interpretation of the series perfectly sums up the core elements of Succession in a short 5-minute skit. The entire dynamic of the Roy family is brilliantly portrayed by the Family Guy characters, with Stewie as Roman and Brian as Connor being particularly painfully accurate.
And Peter's lines (while portraying family patriarch Logan Roy) "None of you is getting this company! But I need it to be one of you" followed by a decision to stay on as CEO, sum up the whole story in a nutshell, along with "I feel great and I probably have 30 years left in me, BUT it's time for me to step away."
Fans of both series point out that the whole segment is basically a recap of the show, although knowing the context makes it better.
They also say that a lot more could have been done with the theme, and that it would have been great to have an entire episode devoted to it. Who knows, maybe they will get their wish as Succession comes to a close.
Succession Season 4 Episode 2 will premiere on April 2, 2023.
