This Clever Queen Charlotte Easter Egg Will Make You Bawl Your Eyes Out
Queen Charlotte is one of the best spinoffs of all time for a multitude of reasons, but certain Easter eggs that tie it back to the main show just prove that further.
In Bridgerton 's season 2, it's finally Eloise's turn to be out in society (though no one is more bummed about it than she is). At first, her entrance is rudely interrupted, but she makes up for it at the ball.
Remember the scene where Eloise comes up to Queen Charlotte and tries to make small talk, but fails miserably (or so it seems at first)?
Eloise famously says that the ball is "very diamondy" and that she prefers "emeralds" herself.
Everyone is shocked at Eloise's outburst, but the Queen appreciates her comment, laughs, and notes that her "favorite necklace is one of emeralds."
Thankfully, the Queen thinks that Eloise is thoughtful enough to know that, and she doesn't chop her head off.
We hope you are ready for what comes next. In Queen Charlotte, the Queen wears an emerald necklace twice – both times in the scenes where she and King George are hiding from the heavens under the bed.
We didn't think that the final scene could get any more tear-jerking than it already was, but here we are. We are not crying, you are crying.
That subtle detail means that Charlotte's favorite necklace is the one that helps George recognize her (even when they are decades into their relationship, and his memory is mostly gone).
This explains so much about her reaction to Eloise's comment which seemed rather out-of-character at the time.
The prequel has given us a much deeper understanding of why the Queen is the way she is, why she does certain things, and what is on her mind and in her heart.
Charlotte and George's story is a heartbreaking testament to love and an insight into the life of a strong woman with a nation on her shoulders.
Queen Charlotte is as much a feminist as most modern-day women, she just had it way harder than us. Much, much harder.
No one is mentally prepared for Bridgerton's season 3, especially if it does end up following both the book timeline and the historical timeline.
Imagine if season 3 spanned a decade, and we witnessed Queen Charlotte and/or King George's deaths… No, Shonda Rhimes, don't do this to us.
