Even the wildest dreams can turn to reality.

Summary:

  • Elon Musk is a businessman and investor known for his plans to inhabit space.
  • Many young people follow Musk's example in entrepreneurship and want to find out what built his current views.
  • According to the businessman, the beginning of his success was given by the original Star Wars movie from 1977.

It's not surprising that many successful people have been inspired by the media they consumed in their youth. Behind every musician, there is surely an artist or band that shaped their taste in music. Behind every actor or director, there's a movie they couldn't stop watching as a kid.

And behind every successful scientist and businessman planning one intergalactic mission after another, there is a sci-fi franchise that captured their imagination and inspired them to explore space. Whether you share Elon Musk's views or not, it's curious to find out what that franchise meant to him.

What’s Elon Musk’s Favorite Movie?

While some people will find this answer quite simple, others would call it the classic. Star Wars, which was later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, is the movie that many refer to as 'the original'. For many fans, it was their first introduction to the Star Wars universe and the genius of George Lucas. Musk was no exception.

During a visit to the Full Send podcast, the businessman opened up about how the film influenced his passions and dreams as an adult:

“That’s the first movie I ever saw in a theater. I think I saw it when I was six years old, something like that. So it really made an impression; maybe that’s why I like rockets, maybe that’s why I like space. It’s probably had an effect,” he said.

Of course, back when Star Wars had just been released, Musk wasn't old enough to be inspired by the commercial success of the movie, but looking back now, it must be just another reason to love it so much. A movie made on an $11 million budget ended up grossing $775 million and spawning an entire multimedia franchise.

Now that you can get just about anything you want, from video games to socks with the Star Wars logo on them, it's hard to imagine that the original Star Wars movie was nothing more than a sci-fi passion project for George Lucas back in the day.

If you want to indulge in the nostalgia and re-watch the 1977 Star Wars movie, you can do so by streaming it on Disney Plus.
