The upcoming spinoff has to make it up to Ziva’s past after all.

There’s not so much time left until the NCIS universe finally makes a grand comeback unveiling the whole mystery surrounding its two brand new spinoffs, and, despite all the controversy this original character once caused, I actually want him back for only one very specific reason.

One of the future spinoffs is bringing Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David back to the screen, keeping their fans eager to see whether the beloved characters’ past will somehow make its way into their present (and it actually should).

Though all the talk about NCIS gone character showing up in NCIS: Tony & Ziva is a pretty much controversial thing to ever consider for the franchise’s future, he could in fact do some good for Ziva and all the remorse that she had about her past.

NCIS’ brand new podcast show Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, hosted by Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, recently had Rudolf Martin as one of its guest stars. On the show, Martin portrayed Ari Haswari, a Mossad terrorist and Ziva David’s half-brother.

Having been after NCIS Special Agents for quite a while, Haswari eventually kills Caitlin Todd who is later replaced by NCIS newcomer Ziva David. Coincidentally, the latter is also the one to avenge Caitlin and to murder Ari soon after in season 3.

During their talk about Martin’s role as one of the fiercest antagonists ever appeared on the show, de Pablo suddenly revealed that she would love Rudolf Martin’s Ari to be back on screen, but, since he’s been dead for a long time now, he could potentially come as a visualization or just a simple ghost for Ziva in the upcoming spinoff about Tony and Ziva’s adventures in Europe.

Although I’m more than reassured at this point that Ari Haswari is one of the most hated characters NCIS has ever introduced, it feels like his brief return could actually have a positive impact on Ziva.

Since Ari was initially Ziva’s half-brother, she has spent years tormented by the whole idea of her killing her own brother, whether he was an assassin or not.

Ari Haswari’s return even in ghost form is still a very controversial suggestion given that he was the one to murder probably the most beloved character on the entire show, but having him visit Ziva as some kind of visualization and consoling her in regard to her seemingly horrible deed would actually turn out to be a perfect closure to this tragedy that Ziva surely didn’t let go to this day.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva is set to premiere on Paramount+ this fall or later this year.
