The Witcher S3 Will Mend the Wounds of S2, Showrunner Promises
After the dramatic events of season 2 and Yennefer's betrayal, it's hard to imagine the sorceress making up to Ciri or Geralt — but the trio will get back together despite that, the showrunner claims.
The Witcher S2 had the show's fans in shock and disbelief. The book fans were, on the other hand, shocked and infuriated.
Whatever the writers were thinking, it was definitely one of their worst decisions yet, and they now have much ground to reclaim with the audience — pretty much like Yennefer must with Geralt and Ciri.
In the original books, Yennefer quickly became a mother figure for Ciri and cared about her a lot.
In the series, for some bizarre reason, the sorceress almost killed the young girl just to reclaim her lost powers which is something the Sapkowski's Yennefer would have never done… To other girls, maybe, but not to Ciri.
After a massive backlash from the fans, the showrunner Lauren Hissrich and the Yennefer actress, Anya Chalotra herself, addressed this issue in their recent interview with EW.
They both spoke about the drama between Yen and Ciri from their points of view — that of an actress, and that of a show executive.
Both Hissrich and Chalotra claim that Yennefer will make it up to the Witcher and his young protégé.
"[Yennefer] puts a lot of time and energy and effort into making it up to them at the beginning of season 3. That quite quickly and quite organically evolves into a real family dynamic," revealed Anya Chalotra.
To support her, the showrunner teased how the supposed family reunion will occur. According to her, it will happen at the Beltane festival — the festival of fertility.
While Yen will try to win Ciri's favor back, she'll also finally get… closer with Geralt.
"Our characters still find time to have fun and enjoy each other, and you finally get some long-long-awaited emotional moments between them," shared Hissrich.
To make this happen, for the Beltane festival, Yennefer will wear the same dress she wore during her first meeting with the Witcher: the black dress we saw on her during the, ahem, magical orgy, for the lack of better words to describe the process.
"She wouldn't have put that on for no reason. That's enough of a hint," Chalotra said.
While it's obvious at this point how Yennefer will try to win Geralt's favor, we're still not sure how would it be possible for the sorceress to get back in Ciri's grace: after all, you can't exactly impress a young girl with a spicy revealing dress after almost killing her and hope for the best.
But we sure do hope for the best. After the disgrace of season 2, it's essential for The Witcher S3 to be grandiose and true to the original… For once.
