The Witcher's Final Season Officially Announced: Liam Isn't Here to Stay
Premature renewal, finale plans, current production stage, and more shared by The Witcher team in the most recent update.
Summary:
- Netflix ’s The Witcher recently announced that Season 4 had finally entered production.
- The show has also been renewed for Season 5 which will be the saga’s finale.
- The Witcher’s fans are promising the show’s downfall without Henry Cavill and new writers or showrunners.
Netflix’s The Witcher has had quite a wretched run so far. The initial excitement of having Andrzej Sapkowski’s epic saga adapted with its biggest fan as a lead star quickly wore off when it turned out not quite keen on following the source material. Three seasons in, Henry Cavill quit The Witcher, and Liam Hemsworth was announced as the new Geralt of Rivia.
Hemsworth hasn’t even played the iconic monster hunter in a single episode yet, but we already know exactly when he’ll hang his two swords like his predecessor did.
The Witcher Receives a Big Update
Yesterday, The Witcher’s team took to the show’s official X (formerly Twitter) account to treat fans to a big update. According to them, Season 4 has finally entered production: it will be Liam Hemsworth’s first outing as the iconic Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill’s leave from the show. But the news goes well beyond Season 4!
The Witcher has already been (prematurely) renewed for Season 5 which, according to the latest update, will be the finale of the entire saga. While promising and all, the update didn’t exactly tickle fans’ fancy nerves as they let their frustration be known.
The Witcher Fans Slam the Show
While the team is excited to keep working on The Witcher, the majority of fans would rather they didn’t. The comment section under the latest update is filled to the brim with frustrated and annoyed fans who, in a plethora of ways, promise The Witcher’s downfall, claiming that even in the best case scenario, the show won’t make it to S5.
“Watching you clowns act as if anyone’s coming back after you ran off your star actor is both pathetic and hilarious,” author John A. Douglas wrote in the comments.
Most other fans agree with them, taking shots at The Witcher’s showrunners and writers and promising the show a grim demise. Seeing how even with Henry Cavill, the biggest fan of The Witcher saga and the main attraction of the series, the show was questionable at best (which led to the star’s exit), there’s no reason to believe that anything will change for the better without him, either.
The showrunners can promise a more faithful adaptation all they want, but it’s too late for fans to be falling for that. Indeed, it seems like Season 5 renewal was… Premature.
