Despite the CW refusing to renew The Winchesters, the show's team and fans didn't give up and kept searching for a "new home." Now, Jensen Ackles admitted defeat.

The Winchesters was seemingly in trouble as soon as it came out.

Even though a large portion of the Supernatural 's audience gave the new prequel series a shot, The Winchesters managed to lose the majority of them rather quickly.

One too many people were pointing out the freshman show's numerous flaws and cons.

Still, despite losing many people during its first season, The Winchesters also gathered a pretty loyal fan base — granted, not a big one.

The channel was not satisfied with the show's ratings and on May 11, it was announced that CW was not renewing The Winchesters for season 2. The hope was still there, though.

The show's executive producer Jensen Ackles, also known as Dean Winchester from Supernatural, led the fight for the series' future.

In his personal Twitter, he called upon the fans to help him and his team find a "new home" for The Winchesters — a new channel or platform that would house the show and allow it to continue to S2.

On Friday, it was announced that all efforts in that department were ceased.

On Saturday, the actor and executive producer Jensen Ackles admitted defeat and announced on his Twitter that The Winchesters would not be continued.

"I couldn't be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say… Timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike… Welp.

That's some unfortunate timing," wrote Ackles, highlighting that the main reason for the failure was the poor time for The Winchesters' struggle for survival.

"Sleep well, dear @WinchestersOnCW… Until we meet again. Somewhere down the road," he added at the end of the tweet.

While The Winchesters' audience is understandably upset with this news, Jensen's last sentence sounds rather peculiar. If we were to speculate, the actor intends to try and pitch a new idea for another Supernatural spin-off or prequel.

We've no idea what it could be now, but Jensen Ackles' vague promise is intriguing nonetheless.
