The Walking Dead Spinoffs Revive Production as AMC Comes to Agreement with SAG-AFTRA
AMC sets a good example for other networks.
The ongoing strikes by SAG-AFTRA and WGA have pressed the pause button on a lot of productions. And unfortunately, not so many studios and corporations are ready to strike a decent deal with the protesters. However, AMC is an exception.
If you've been worrying about what's happening with The Walking Dead spinoffs, there is some awesome news for you. As per Deadline's report, after some intense talks, AMC Networks and the actors' union have finally agreed on a deal. So, it means the production is getting back on track.
AMC was in a bit of a pickle because of the strikes, but they've managed to work out a temporary deal with SAG-AFTRA. This means they can get back to making some of their biggest shows, including two The Walking Dead spinoffs: Daryl Dixon season 2 and The Ones Who Live, plus season 2 of Interview with the Vampire.
The deal doesn't include the Writers Guild. The scripts for the current seasons are already complete. So now, it's just a matter of the actors heading back to the studio to keep shooting.
Over on Reddit, the mood is pretty upbeat. Fans are thrilled that the network is finally willing to pay up to get the shows back on the road. Some are even hopeful that this means we'll soon get a specific release date for The Ones Who Live, Rick and Michonne's spin-off.
There's also some chatter about possible reshoots or extra scenes, especially for The Ones Who Live, which had already wrapped up its shooting.
Looking ahead, what's on the horizon? TWD: Daryl Dixon is gearing up for its debut on September 10, while TWD: The Ones Who Live is slated for a 2024 release.
Interview with the Vampire, which was also caught up in the strikes, is also back in action, although a specific release date hasn't been announced yet.
This is a big victory for AMC and an even bigger win for fans. The network had already hinted that the strikes wouldn't mess up their schedule too much, and this deal solidifies that claim.
