Careful: you might shed a tear even without re-watching the movies!

No matter how tough you are, we're sure there is at least one movie quote that can make you shed a tear or two. Let's look at the most iconic lines from movies that made Redditors cry – but maybe keep a napkin around you, just in case.

Saving Private Ryan

"She'd stand in the doorway looking at me... and I'd just keep my eyes shut. And I knew she just wanted to find out about my day – that she came home early... just to talk to me. And I still wouldn't move... I'd still pretend to just be asleep. I don't know why I did that."

This is the revelation by Irwin Wade, a medic from the squad that was chosen to retrieve Private Ryan. When he was a child, he rarely saw his mother who worked long hours, so he tried to stay awake at night to talk to her. One night, he pretended to have fallen asleep for a reason he could not explain to himself – only to have his mother dying sometime before he was sent to war.

When Wade died after being shot three times in the chest, he asked his friends to overdose him on morphine. He kept calling for his mother as he was dying – a scene that is even more heartbreaking after that quote.

Green Mile

"Please, boss, don't put that thing over my face, don't put me in the dark. I's afraid of the dark."

Oh, the things Green Mile has done to us all. Don't try and lie to us that your eyes were not full of tears when John Coffey was being executed and pled that the officers don't put the mask on his eyes as they were getting the electric chair ready.

After Green Mile – both the book and the movie – many people realized that Stephen King, the story's author, is much more than just a horror novelist. Up to this day, many movie lovers simply refuse to re-watch Green Mile – just because how good the movie is and how quickly it brings you to tears.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

"My body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed. Eowyn..."

Fantasy worlds are sometimes as touching and heartbreaking as the stories that are based on reality. So many things make fans sob about this Theoden quote, from the fact that he is trying to make peace with his own death to him having no idea that Eowyn is lying half-dead just a few feet away.

Forrest Gump

"Is he smart or is he like me?"

"He is very smart. He's one of the smartest in his class."

When Forrest realizes that he is the father of Jenny's son, it is one of the movie's most emotional moments for a couple of reasons. First, that "like me" part gets everyone every time: Forrest knows he is different and doesn't want his kid to go through the same struggles he had with his condition. Secondly, the mere fact that he is able to finally be with Jenny seems to be too much for him: she almost has to steady him just so he can handle the moment properly.

Logan

"So this is what it feels like…"

Next time someone tells you superhero movies cannot make you cry, remind them of the moment when Hugh Jackman 's Logan says his last words: "So this is what it feels like…", apparently referring to Xavier's earlier advice to him that he needs to experience what it feels like to be a part of the family. Unfortunately, Logan only gets to realize how that feels when he's dying, and his daughter Laura calls him daddy for the very first time in the movies.
