The Rock Drags Warner Bros Over Henry Cavill's Superman - Again

In a recent Twitter post about Back Adam performance at the box office, Dwayne Rock Johnson has unleashed an attack on the Warner Bros. bosses over their reluctance to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman.

"At the end of the day the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back inexplicably and inexcusably. But we're not gonna take 'No' for an answer," The Rock said, admitting that "this has been 7 years in the making to bring Cavill back" and took years of strategic conversations.

Johnson explained that "there was no way, no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC universe" without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time.

The Rock said you can draw business charts forever, in an apparent reference to the underperformance of the Superman movies at the box office, but the universe does not work "without Superman in the mix. They fought hard to get Henry Cavill's Superman, and it was made possible after new leadership at DC and Warner Bros. took the reins.

Johnson believes that Cavill is "our generation's" Superman, and he personally considers him to be the greatest Superman – although he means that with respect to other actors, especially Christopher Reeve.

Cavill made a Superman cameo in the post-credits scene for Black Adam, teasing his possible return as the superhero. For now, the only thing we know for sure is that Henry Cavill's contract covered his Superman role in Black Adam. That's it.

However, there's a lot of speculation in the media about Cavill's Superman contract with DC Studios. Some outlets have claimed that it includes TV appearances. James Gunn, co-head of the DC studio, did not mince his words in debunking the rumors, saying that no one – other than himself and Peter Safran – knows what the DC studio's plans are.

In his recent Twitter post, Johnson sounded calm and assured when talking about Cavill's return as the superhero – as if it's a done deal. After all, he was the one who made Cavill's cameo in Black Adam possible and who has been rooting for his return.

While DC studio executives remain tight-lipped about the future vision for the DC Universe, it may only be a matter of time before we learn about the long-term plans for the DCU arguably most important (at least at this point) superhero.

As for the fans, they are hoping that 2023 will bring some clarity as to what kind of Superman they will see as the DCU enters a new era with Gunn and Safran at the helm.
