You would be surprised with the true power of marriage.

In all the years that General Hospital has been on the air, it's not surprising how many characters have come and gone.

The show did a good job of capturing most of the exits: those with strong potential to return were moved on or locked up for a while, while others were killed off.

However, the audience's expectations did not always match the writers' plans. One of the characters who has surprised viewers the most with his longevity is Frisco Jones.

Frisco Jones was first introduced in 1984 and immediately became involved in one of the most popular General Hospital romances of the time.

Frisco and Felicia were considered a super couple for a very long time, but in the last years of the character's presence, more and more fans found him rather annoying.

As one of the worst father figures General Hospital has ever seen, Frisco could have easily been killed off and replaced by Mac.

Well, the answer is more practical than you might think. Jack and Kristina Wagner, who portrayed Frisco and Felicia for most of their appearances, were married in real life, and the audience just couldn't get enough of their duo.

Considering the fact that there were a lot of eyes on them from 2001 to 2005 due to the troubles in their marriage, Jack and Kristina Wagner were the perfect bait for viewers.

Every time they appeared, the show's ratings went up, so the showrunners did what was best: keep the door open for Wagner to return, rather than shut it completely.

Unfortunately, the marriage of two General Hospital co-stars did not work out in the end, and neither did that of Frisco and Felicia. Since she preferred to stay with Mac, Frisco decided to leave town.

The good news is that viewers can still hope to see him back on their screens today as one of the show's veterans.

He may not have made the most popular decisions back in the day, but loyal General Hospital fans today are just happy to have as many legacy characters as possible.

To see if Frisco Jones will be one of the veterans making a return to the show for its 60th anniversary, tune in to ABC Monday through Friday for new episodes.
