The One With Friends' Cast Mercilessly Roasting George Clooney
Friends weren't always friendly, especially not to their rivals. George Clooney might back us up on this!
There was one time when Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox brutally roasted the Hollywood star in front of everyone, though granted it was for a good cause – Clooney was up to receive the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.
In 2018, George Clooney was recognized for his life's work at the 46th AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute, and the people closest to the actor were there to support and praise him.
Jennifer and Courteney weren't among them, as they decided to go in the opposite direction and poke a little fun at their pal and colleague.
The duo started off their speech with a mention of the show that made Clooney's career, ER, saying, "There were millions of people watching Friends that happened to stay there, too lazy to turn the channel, to watch ER."
Courteney and Jennifer were referring to the fact that George Clooney starred in the hit medical drama from 1994 to 2000, and that the show ran after Friends on Thursday nights.
Ouch!
Cox went on to claim, "Without us, you're Chicago Hope, buddy." In case you are confused, this was another medical drama that ran around the same time, but never got the recognition that ER did.
Nice emotional damage, Courteney!
Aniston jokingly added that Clooney was "lucky" that Friends never changed its airing schedule because otherwise, the actor wouldn't have known "every success that he'd had since then."
The Friends co-stars concluded by saying that everyone else may have been there to thank George, but they were there to say two other words – "You're welcome."
Well, technically, it should be three, but good one, girls!
During the same event, Jennifer and Courteney also gave their rendition of the chorus of the Friends theme song, The Rembrandts' I'll Be There for You, as part of their speech to Clooney. Ah, the nostalgia!
By the way, George Clooney also appeared (along with his ER co-star, Noah Wyle) in the season 1 episode of Friends, The One With Two Parts: Part 2.
In that episode, they both played handsome ER doctors too (Dr. Michael Mitchell and Dr. Jeffrey Rosen, respectively) who had a double date with Rachel and Monica, but everything went wonderfully sideways.
These three really do go way back, so this kind of roast is totally forgivable for Jennifer and Courteney!
