In a show that essentially amounts to what we can call 'Clark Kent high school era', at least in the first couple of seasons, we never actually see any characters do what any high school student has to do: their homework. Managing a coffee shop at 16, on the other end?..

Smallville, the beloved TV series that had us all hooked for a decade, was known for its thrilling storylines and relatable characters. But there's one thing that fans of the show never got to see: characters doing homework.

In a recent episode of the Talkville podcast (watch full episodes here on YouTube), Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, the show's stars, got candid about the lack of homework scenes in Smallville.

Rosenbaum hilariously pointed out how Clark Kent, the high school student protagonist of the show, never seemed to have any homework. Welling, in agreement, quipped that it would have been a "very boring show" if every scene started with someone doing homework.

But hey, at least we know Clark has done some light reading, leafing through Bradbury once in a while.

But why did the creators of Smallville choose not to include scenes of characters doing homework? The answer may lie in the show's focus on action and adventure. After all, Smallville follows the teenage years of Clark Kent as he discovers his powers and becomes Superman. Can you imagine Clark Kent, the future Man of Steel, getting bogged down with math homework?

It's also worth noting that the actors themselves were pretty far from high school students in terms of age. Tom Welling was 24 and Michael Rosenbaum was 29. Lana, Chloe and Pete actors were closer to their characters' age, all being 18-19 at the time Smallville season 1 filming started.
